Arctic Fox

Churchill Wildlife Management Area, Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada

The Arctic Fox is much smaller than the more commonly seen Red Fox, only being about 30" (76cm) long.  Its diminutive size, however, is one of the animal's adaptations to its subzero habitat: a compact body with short legs and ears, dense fur, and thickly haired footpads.  Its winter coat of white also helps it blend into the environment extremely well.
